Job Description:

The HSE Advisor - Health Assurance & Investigation provides specialist workplace occupational safety and health, expertise in health management, incident investigation and auditing to assist production in achieving a strong Health & Safety culture and meeting regulatory requirements across both Oil and Gas assets.

 

Accountabilities:

  • The position is based in Perth but will require regular offshore visits to remote locations.

  • Active member of the Incident Management Team for the specific functional skill set.

  • Ensures compliance with and adherence to standards for EHS performance and behavior consistent with Company’s environmental, health & safety vision and policies and standards.

  • Monitor activities to ensure operations are carried out in accordance with safety and environmental approvals requirements and the Santos Management System (SMS).

  • Lead/participate in HSE audits and inspections for operated facilities and activities as required.

  • Provide support to the Production HSE Team leader and Production Manager, in conjunction with the gas assets HSE Advisers/medics, to ensure that improvement measures are implemented if HSE performance is found to be non-compliant.

  • Facilitate/lead investigations of significant incidents on production facilities as required.

  • Monitor incident investigations and inspections/audits to satisfactory closure through tracking close out reports.

  • Drive continuous improvement in health and wellness delivery through the review of investigation outcomes and other incident trending analysis with subsequent development of improvement initiatives.

  • Monitor incident database and quality of incident/investigation reports and bring to the attention of the relevant HSE Team Leader/Manager/Superintendent/Engineer any identified non-conformances.

  • Participate in the HSE audit process including the development of corporate audit schedule on a year to year basis.

  • Act as Injury Management Coordinator within the Company, liaising with the company injury management service provider who are responsible for coordinating the injured / ill person and external medical providers.

  • Primary contact for Company Doctor and the HR department for injury management, contractor interface and technical advice.

  • Provide technical support to the site based HSE Advisors/Medics for issues such as injury management and return to work programs, including the coordination of relevant training requirements.

  • Manage Company Poisons Permit, including auditing management of scheduled drugs at operational facilities.

  • Support the development, delivery review of effectiveness of health and wellness improvements as part of offshore division HSE Improvement plans.

  • Carry out any other appropriate duties as directed by HSE Manager, HSE team leader or Senior Health & Safety Advisor commensurate with the role.

  • Awareness of the external Health regulatory and operational environment (outside Santos) through networks and industry forums with a view to bringing any industry leanings into Santos practices through communication and documentation updates.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Tertiary qualifications in safety health and Injury management or related fields.

  • Incident investigation and Auditing.

  • Minimum 10 years hydrocarbon or resource industry experience in the area of health and wellness and injury management.

  • Experience with environmental health and occupational health management advantageous.

  • Working experience in HSE management systems and/or approval regime.

  • Familiarity with local and national legislation relating to health and wellness.

  • Significant previous experience in implementing and improving HSE management systems in the areas of health and wellness.

  • Demonstrate knowledge, experience and involvement with Incident investigations and Assurance activities.

  • Good communication skills – written and verbal.

  • Causal Analysis Investigation Training i.e. TapRoot®.

  • Internal / External Auditor training.
