Working closely with the category director, you will lead a team of supply chain management professionals and contribute to our vision of being an industry leading, innovative commercial centre of excellence. You will apply your extensive EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) and construction experience to support Suncor’s top quartile performance in project safety, quality, cost and schedule.
Key Accountabilities
Provide effective leadership and mentorship to foster an engaged workplace and strong performing team while providing guidance to internal partners and ensuring team deliverables are in compliance with processes and ethics
Identify category demand, priorities and requirements
Manage the fundamentals of sourcing and supplier engagement activities, development and execution of short-term and long-term category strategies; reduce cost and meet business partner priorities while effectively managing supplier relationships
Effectively document, communicate and obtain agreement for category strategies with senior leadership, across the organization and with the supplier community; manage category contracts, lead negotiations on complex/high-spend contracts, and lead/manage contract dispute resolution
Work with partners and the team to develop, engage and handle supplier relationships and performance to extract the greatest value in supplier quality, productivity, total cost-effectiveness, enhanced service levels, risk management, sustainability and innovation
Ensure contract compliance and overall spend management are consistent with category strategies, identify root causes of issues, and recommend strategies for resolution
Monitor, communicate, and respond to changing market conditions and business drivers to improve leverage and minimize risk
Manage business partner and stakeholder relationships, contribute to a culture of integration, collaboration and trust
Required Qualifications
Experience and Education:
15 years of relevant experience in supply chain management with growing levels of responsibility
10 years of work experience in a heavy industrial environment involving EPC and construction contracting
Five years of experience leading others and building high performing teams
Post-secondary education in business, engineering or law; MBA and other recognized professional designations and training is an asset (SCMP, P.Eng, PMP, Six Sigma, Lean, etc.)
Skills and Knowledge:
You bring expertise in driving strategy development within a highly complex environment and a deep knowledge of capital projects, construction processes, trends and cost drivers
You have advanced knowledge and demonstrated application of construction industry standard methodologies such as workforce planning, advanced work packaging, early construction involvement, first planner, etc.
You are an expert in category management, strategic sourcing and supply chain management practices, with a deep understanding of commercial agreement structures and the function and purpose of legal terms
You have superior negotiation skills with experience in team-based negotiations and group facilitation skills, with the demonstrated ability to lead complex and or critical internal and external relationships
You are a strong leader who can inspire change, with a strong financial acumen and excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills
You have the ability to lead multiple simultaneous projects requiring effective organization, time management and analytical skills in a dynamic work environment
