The purpose is to develop and deliver enhancements to the existing network architecture to a robust, scalable and always available network platform supporting high transactional trading applications and architecture to enable the expansion of GM&T’s business worldwide. This role is part of GM&T’s DevOps Team, driving the delivery of Network Services across the group both from a core infrastructure perspective and working with delivery teams to introduce new capabilities and enhancements. Global Infrastructure and Operations Global Infrastructure and operations are responsible for all Infrastructure Services, First Line Services, Workplace Services, and Application Services (Trading only) across over 15 locations. Functions include DevOps, and Infrastructure Operations including Networks, Servers, Database, and Desktop Support, Change Control, and Service Management. The teams are responsible for all day to day operational activities of 4 Datacentres, 8 core Offices and over 1500 users. The infrastructure they support is critical for both the Trading (GM&T and WINGAS), Retail (GE) and corporate (GPG) businesses. They also work closely with the Programme Delivery team to assist in the delivery of the portfolio of projects as determined by our business colleagues. ROLE OBJECTIVES The purpose is to develop and deliver enhancements to the existing network architecture to a robust, scalable and always available network platform supporting high transactional trading applications and architecture to enable the expansion of GM&T’s business worldwide. This role is part of GM&T’s DevOps Team, driving the delivery of Network Services across the group both from a core infrastructure perspective and working with delivery teams to introduce new capabilities and enhancements. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES • Develop and evolve the existing GM&T Group network architecture in line with application, capacity and technology refresh requirements. • Drive and support the delivery of business projects ensuring that they adhere to standards and consume network services in the most optimized fashion. • Deliver technical network projects and requirements through the use of project management methodologies. • Act as an escalation point to troubleshoot complex incident and problem investigations to root cause analysis. • Lead service lifecycle management efforts to improve system resiliency and maximize operational efficiency, inputting into financial planning and budgets. • Provide and support governance efforts around service standards and team processes. Maintain operational documentation to aid troubleshooting efforts and swift resolution of incidents. • Develop the skills and experience within the team, coach and mentor colleagues in the team. SKILLS & COMPETENCIES • Proven hands-on skills in datacenter, routing and switching, security and migration with an extensive knowledge of Enterprise Network Architectures. • Extensive practical routing and switching experience with Cisco IOS and NX-OS supporting high end, active-active datacenters including 6000 and 7000 series chassis. • Knowledge of Nexus 9300 series with leaf and spine architectures • Extensive knowledge of Cisco firewalls and remote access technologies – ASA and Firepower • Cisco Load Balancing and Wide Area Acceleration Technologies. • Citrix Netscaler Technologies • Wireless LAN infrastructure. • VPN and MPLS WAN technologies. • VOIP, telephony infrastructure including IP and SIP based systems including video conferencing and telepresence. • Trading telephony systems such as dealer boards and voice recorders. • Practical knowledge of Internet Gateways & Proxies. • Monitoring tools such as Cisco LMS, Prime, Solarwinds, and Observer. • Constantly looking for ways to improve technologies, systems and processes. • Can-do attitude, willingness to take ownership and responsibility of projects and issues. • Working under pressure and delivering to timescales with changing business requirements. • Capable of providing 24×7 on call support and accept that the role will require, on occasion, anti-social hours to be worked. EXPERIENCE • Substantial demonstrable experience of implementing and maintaining high impact, mission-critical, secure enterprise-class networks. • Use of project management methodologies for delivery of requirements. • Demonstrate exemplary technical knowledge when managing major issues, faults and projects. • Experience of working across the OSI layer with strong emphasis on Layer 2, 3 and 4-7, routing, switching, and application load balancing. • Familiarity with a variety of testing tools, networking technologies and techniques to accurately troubleshoot and resolve complex technical problems associated within the service, application and network hardware and software. • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to engage and build relationships across all levels within the internal organization as well as external partner organizations. • Experience of working in an ITIL environment. • Experience of working with security risk assessments, compliance and audit, information security standards such as ISO27001, etc… EDUCATION • Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) certification or equivalent experience with strong preference for Routing & Switching and/or Data Centre track. • CISSP highly desirable. • ITIL certified. • Degree level education in Computer Science or a related discipline desirable. • Project Management qualifications desirable.
